Carol Altenbaugh is a graduate of Florida State University's School of Art Education.

She has also attended the Penland School in Spruce Pine. N.C., and Oglethrope College in Atlanta, Georgia. She taught art in Florida for thirty years and, upon retiring, moved to Dahlonega, Georgia, and concentrated on wood carving. Since moving to Lake City she has also begun to explore art quilting as a second creative interest.

"When working with wood my imagination is inspired by nature, animals, and the spirit of the wood itself. I love to find a piece with natural holes or odd grain patterns. Even a crack or split will influence what the piece becomes."
